Es el turno de repasar algunos de los llamados distractores internos , que están relacionados con como nosotros percibimos las situaciones y como decidimos enfrentarlas:Ø Pasado: Autoreproches por errores que se cometieron hacen que uno convierta un error en dos (o más) ya que al error ya producido se le suman los que uno comete mientras todavía piensa en el primero. Los reproches y los insultos a uno mismo generalmente no conducen a ningún lado más que a hacer que uno se mortifique, se sienta mal con uno mismo, baje su autoconfianza y lógicamente todo esto se va a ver reflejado en su juego. Uno de los desafíos mentales más grandes que tienen los deportistas es el de no «engancharse» o no «darse manija» con incidentes y oportunidades que ya han pasado.

La concentración y la compostura son claves si se quiere salir airoso y satisfecho después de una gratificante ronda de golf.
Como venimos viendo, sobre la capacidad para mantener la atención en lo que estamos realizando influyen muchos factores (el resultado, los competidores, el estado del campo, las condiciones climáticas, etc.).
Sin embargo, lo fundamental es lo que nosotros hacemos con lo que nos pasa. Es decir, como nos lo tomamos.

Un séxtuple bogey!!!
Hechos como estos invitan a especular sobre los pensamientos y las sensaciones que habrá experimentado el protagonista.
Entonces, después de eso, ¿usted piensa que Cabrera se dijo a si mismo “soy el peor golfista del mundo” o “acá tendría que ganar caminando y tiro el torneo haciendo diez”?
¡Ni por casualidad!
Simplemente habrá pensado “puede pasar” y, aún con algo de enojo, encaró el siguiente hoyo con la misma convicción para cerrar la vuelta con par y birdie. Esto ocurrió en la última jornada del Abierto de la Mesopotamia 2007.
Ahora imagínese a usted en la misma situación: todavía está en contención por el título, llega al hoyo 16 de la última ronda a dos golpes del puntero (Cabrera llegó a ese hoyo a dos golpes de Julio Zapata, quien luego obtendría el torneo) y tira la primera pelota fuera de límites, la segunda…también y la tercera…también!

Más allá de la habilidad única que podría poseer Ben Hogan, no se puede dejar de lado que para ser un jugador de golf completo hay que desarrollar una sólida mentalidad. No se necesita pasar por una vida difícil para ser fuerte mentalmente.
Tampoco haber atravesado una infancia llena de obstáculos y privaciones nos garantiza que vayamos a poseer dicha solidez psicológica. Entonces, más allá de lo que le haya tocado en la vida a esta leyenda del golf (que aparentemente tuvo muchas buenas y muchas malas), vamos a aprovechar esta columna para comentar parte de su filosofía y tomar lecciones psicológicas que podamos aprender a partir del análisis de algunos dichos que se le atribuyen.
