Muchos entusiastas del golf, especialmente aquellos que recién comienzan , que todavía no tienen su juego demasiado asentado o que están en pleno cambio técnico para mejorar ciertos aspectos de su swing, comentan que tienen dificultades a la hora de realizar la difícil transición del driving a la cancha.
Notan que los tiros que les salen muy bien en la práctica no los pueden llevar al campo.
Algunos de los problemas de quienes se quejan están relacionados con olvidarse las indicaciones del profesor, otros piensan mucho (quizás demasiado) en lo que deberían estar haciendo (es decir, en el aspecto técnico) y no les sale un golpe o un swing natural (lo que comúnmente puede denominarse como fluido), en definitiva, les resulta difícil llevar a la cancha lo que aprenden en el driving.

Tener una sólida rutina antes de cada golpe es una de las claves para el juego mental en el golf ya que la forma en que uno se prepara para cada tiro es crucial a la hora de alcanzar de manera consistente nuestro más alto rendimiento.
El objetivo central de la rutina es prepararse para ejecutar el golpe con la confianza, concentración y tranquilidad ideales para así lograr consistencia en cada tiro. Por tanto, lo importante no es cumplir la rutina rígidamente paso por paso sino que la rutina despierte esas sensaciones que buscamos.
Fundamentación
No hace falta hacer un gran esfuerzo por defender la importancia de este tipo de rutinas, simplemente indicar que los profesionales de todas las giras internacionales las usan. Las rutinas de este tipo funcionan y dan consistencia a la acción porque:
– proveen un sentido de familiaridad en cualquier ambiente o situación, por tanto son una manera de desviar la presión y regular la ansiedad,
– te activan y te focalizan en conductas efectivas (te dice en qué concentrarte y cuándo hacerlo, bloqueando los distractores)…

La visualización se refiere a la capacidad para crear o recrear una experiencia en la mente empleando todos los sentidos (la vista, el oído, el olfato, el tacto, la sensación cinestésica del movimiento y hasta el gusto). El objetivo es hacer la vivencia lo más real posible, por ello también es aconsejable incluir los pensamientos y las emociones que podemos llegar a experimentar en la situación imaginada.
Es una habilidad que se puede mejorar a través de la práctica. También se suelen emplear diferentes nombres para referirse a ella: ensayo mental o imaginería son otras dos opciones comunes. Sirve para muchos propósitos y trae diversos beneficios para el rendimiento.
Puede ser usada para:
construir confianza imaginando ejecuciones exitosas,
prepararse para jugar a través del ensayo mental de varias situaciones de competencia,
motivarse imaginando competiciones pasadas o futuras,
focalizar la atención,
manejar la ansiedad, el estrés competitivo y otras emociones,
aprender y perfeccionar habilidades ensayando mentalmente la técnica y la estrategia (la toma de decisiones y la administración de los golpes), y mejorar la recuperación de lesiones y la tolerancia al dolor.
En definitiva, es una excelente manera de complementar desde el enfoque psicológico el entrenamiento técnico y físico.

Muchos jugadores están bastante conscientes de la necesidad de armar una sólida rutina pre-golpe pero, ¿qué pasa después de la ejecución? ¿Qué pasa por sus cabezas durante esos dramáticos instantes en que miran la pelota en vuelo o en que direccionan con la mirada, en un desesperado intento de telequinesis, ese putt de 10 yardas que “nunca” cae?
Especialmente importante para el siguiente tiro va a ser la reacción posterior a los golpes que no alcanzaron la expectativa que se había puesto en ellos. Nuevamente un plan de acción, una rutina, puede venir en nuestro auxilio. Esta rutina post-golpe es parte de lo que realmente va a permitir jugar la ronda un golpe a la vez.
